With every SunPower solar system, you get a SunPower inverter (made by SMA specially for SunPower) to convert the DC electricity from the solar array into usable AC electricity for your home. The inverter monitors the utility's grid and supplies power just the same as the utility. When production exceeds household use, the inverter increases the voltage just a bit, sending the excess power into the utility grid.
Also since it uses the internet, you can log in anywhere you find internet access, and check in on the production of your solar array.
